Doug and Amanda Keillor -
Making a Difference in Mexico

Many of our longtime StudioPlus clients remember working with Doug Keillor, our former Director of Business Development. After leaving StudioPlus Software in 2009, Doug entered law school, received his law degree and started a non-profit working on human rights and juvenile detention.

Doug and his wife Amanda now reside in Mexico City, Mexico where they work with the courts and prisons to create alternatives to detention. Over 90% of teens in prisons in Mexico are non-violent and will wait up to 12 months in jail just to get to trial for petty offenses. While in prison they are abused by the police and when released, they end up dropping out of school, living on the streets, or are re-arrested for more serious crimes.

Photography has become an important part of their work – documenting life in juvenile prison and giving a face to injustices. They recently put together an exhibit documenting how prison effects families. The "Visiting Day" exhibit was displayed this fall at the Mexico City Museum.
