Spectra 2013 includes some great new features that will help improve your ability to maintain your user lists and security permissions.
User Groups have been renamed and are now called Security Groups. User Departments have been expanded in 2013 to allow a user to belong to multiple Departments. So what’s the difference between Security Groups and Departments? Each user can belong to just one Security Group, and it’s the Security Group that defines what permissions a group of users have. Whereas Departments are used for operational purposes to define what roles your employees fulfill within your company, like photographers, sales, customer service, production, administration, etc.
Security Groups and User Lists have been separated into two separate maintenance lists. This change allows you, as the business owner, to control security, while allowing someone else, like a manager, to maintain your user lists.
The User Maintenance Form has been completely rewritten, making it easier to use and including many new user fields. For example, a notes field has been added to each user record, allowing you to track important employment history information.
Security features have also been improved in Spectra 2013. Now, when setting security permissions for a Security Group or individual user, you can multi-select a group of security items and set the permissions all at once. For example, use shift-click to highlight all the List Maintenance items, and set the permission to “No Access” all at once. In addition, the following new items have been added to the Security list, giving you greater control over the security of your software.
