Processing Credit Cards in the Mobile App

This topic only applies to U.S. clients who utilize TSYS (Cayan) credit card processing. Click here for more information. 

myStratus Mobile now has the ability to take credit card payments using the TSYS (FKA Cayan) Genius Mini device. The Genius Mini supports traditional credit and debit cards, gift and loyalty cards, chip cards (EMV), and mobile payment applications like Apple Pay® and Android Pay®. In the mobile app, you'll be able to take a payment for an existing invoice which has an outstanding balance, or you can record a customer deposit to apply to an invoice at a later time. Read the following instructions to get started processing credit cards from your mobile device.

1 - Purchase or lease a Genius Mini device from TSYS (Cayan)

2 - Download the Genius Mini app and connect it with the Mini terminal

  1. Search for "Genius Mini" in your Apple or Android device's app store. The app should be one of the first ones listed. If desired, click here to watch a video covering how to connect to the Genius Mini.

  2. After the app finishes downloading, launch the Genius Mini app and power on the Mini terminal.

  3. If using a Bluetooth Mini terminal, make sure to turn on Bluetooth for your Apple or Android device.

  4. Click the line No Device. Please Select Device. to connect the Genius app with the Mini terminal.

  5. Select whether you are connecting via the Audio Jack or through Bluetooth. If connecting through Bluetooth, you will then be prompted to select your device.

3 - Activate Mobile Payments

  1. Go to Maintenance > Preferences > Company Preferences > Credit Cards tab.

  2. From this tab, check the box to Allow credit card processing from the myStratus Mobile App.

  3. Click OK to save your changes.

4 - Take Payments through the mobile app

  1. From the myStratus mobile app, open the desired Client or Session record and scroll to the very bottom to click the option Process Credit Card. There is also an option to Process Credit Card on the Home screen where you can search for any Client, Session, or Invoice Record on the fly.


    Currently the mobile app does not have the ability to view or create a new invoice. The process of creating an invoice is one of the most complex aspects of myStratus, and will be available in a future update of the myStratus Mobile App. However, you can easily record a Customer Deposit in any amount from the mobile app, then later create the invoice in the myStratus Desktop or Web apps and apply the customer deposit to the invoice at that time. 

  3. The next screen will list all invoices associated with this record. Select which invoice you're running a payment for. If processing from the Client record, there will also be the option to Process Customer Deposit. This option will create a customer deposit instead of a payment record.

  4. After this, enter the exact dollar amount to charge on the credit card and click Get Swiped if you'll be processing the credit card through the genius device, or Get Keyed if you'll be manually entering the card details. Note: The Genius Mini app should already be open on your mobile device and connected to the Mini Device at this point.

  5. At this stage, the Genius Mini app will automatically open and initiate the payment with the Genius Mini Device. Once the payment has processed, you'll return to the myStratus mobile app and the payment will be visible within the desktop app.
